Last August 23, 2011, Honorary Consul to Russian Federation Armi Garcia of Sweet Alert Society, Inc., Ms. Cosette Fernandez, President, Sun.Star Publication Inc. AVP for Marketing and Ramon Isberto, Head of PLDT Media and SMART Public Affairs Group signed a memorandum of agreement for the pre-Holloween event, Spooktacular Run at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel.

Keep your potions bottled up and your tricks up your sleeves. Gather your families, friends, minions and everyone in your neighborhood – because the most spectacular (or should I say spooktacular) Holloween running event is in town.

The said event will be on October 28, 2011, a Friday prior to Holloween to give families and barkadas an early kick-off celebration for the annual freak-o-holiday.

The Spooktacular Run is made up of 3km, 6km and 10km runs. There will also be a special 1.5km race for children who want to join the fun. The runners can bring anyone – from their family to their friends. And while they are busy running in the race, their family and friends can have fun in the entertainments provided in the grounds of SM City Cebu, which is by the way the starting and finishing point of the Spooktacular Run. Part of the many treats prepared in SM City Cebu is the overall theme of zombies and plants based on the popular computer game, Plants vs Zombies.

The fun doesn’t stop there. Characters from Adam’s Family, witches, ghouls and many other Holloween characters will be seen roaming and lurking in the eerily lit venue. The runners and their families and friends are also highly encouraged to dress up in Holloween costumes.

There will also be mini events for the family like the Mad Dash contest and activities from Sweet Alert, Inc. to help educate the public on diabetes. There’s still more to anticipate in this event – and horror movies and cool bands are just a few to tap your curiosity and party sense.

So put that little red mark on your horror calendar because this is the one Holloween event you surely don’t want to miss.

STOP SMOKING, START RUNNING. Running is one of the best ways  to help you quit smoking.

Stop smoking, start running. That's the theme of tonight's Ungo Friday Night Run that will start at The Active Zone in Ayala Center Cebu. Dubbed as 'Ungo Run' ~ "Ungo" means in the local language as Monster or relates to Night time.

Organizers are inviting non-runners, newbies, seasoned runners and smokers who've long wanted to quit the habit to attend the event, which is free and open to everyone. The event is organized by the Ungo Runners, a group that runs every Friday night on the streets of Cebu City.

Businessman and runner Richard Ho is scheduled to talk about his personal experience in kicking a smoking habit and starting and keeping a running habit.

Dr. John Clifford Aranas, an ultra-marathoner, will talk about the clinical aspect of smoking.

After their talk, the group will walk and run five kilometers inside the Cebu Business Park and finish at the Asiatown IT Park.

The Ungo Friday Night Run is open to the public. Those who want to join can just go to The Active Zone in Ayala Center Cebu at 9 p.m. tonight.
