The 5th October Run 2011 is for the Breast Cancer Awareness for this month. What's unique about this Cebu Running Event is that it will pass by 3 Flyovers with the choice of 3K,5K and 10K distance on October 9, 2011.

The 5th October Run 2011 will have an assembly time of 5am and will begin at 5:30am at the Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu. The 5th October Run Registration Fee will be at Php250.00 which is for the Benefit of PCS-CEV Breast Clinic Outreach Program.

Can you imagine life without farmers? A team of scholars from the Young Minds Academy (YMA) Season 5 leadership program can’t. They harnessed the power of marketing strategies mostly through the new media to promote a farmer empowerment project in Consolacion, Cebu. Because of the on-going training that the farmers are undergoing, they will soon yield better and abundant harvests in their respective farms all over Cebu.

About Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan
Team CPMPC of the YMA program of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. created a campaign for the “Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan.” The project aims to educate farmers in vegetable and fruit production and innovations as part of the poverty alleviation goals of the Municipality of Consolacion.

Around 120 farmers go to the 5,000 square meter demo farm site in Brgy. Danglag to learn from the trainers from Harbest Agribusiness Corporation and the Department of Agriculture Regional Offices.
The program’s aim is to empower our farmers with knowledge to improve farm practice and increase yield, thereby providing better income opportunities.

The project started last September 11 and is set to end on November 18, 2011. This has been done in 18 other project sites all over the country as well, and as of writing, graduated more than two thousand farmers.

About iluvfarmers
The Team CPMPC scholars of YMA drafted and implemented a massive campaign to help these farmers gain social awareness and support from the public with the parameters set by RAFI which is 1,000 likes on the Facebook page and 10,000 peso donation or signature of commitment within a one month period.
But instead of focusing on achieving the goals, they turned to the notion that the quality of interaction and support they get is more important especially within the deadline.

As part of the marketing strategy, they branded their campaign as “iluvfarmers” to imply the need for people to appreciate our farmers who are considered as unsung heroes. Meticulous planning and execution was done from designing the logo, content creation and development, setting of specific goals, art direction of campaign materials such as online posters, advertisements, teasers, blog posts, endorsements from different personalities and regular updates in the social networking sites. They also went to the farm demo site and worked with the farmers themselves under extreme weather conditions and poor classroom setting.

The scholars themselves underwent input sessions with social marketing experts in the region today.
They created a Facebook page with a custom designed landing page which can be accessed at http://fb.me/iluvfarmers where details of the program and how you can support the campaign and the farmers are placed. They also created a Twitter account http://twitter.com/iluvfarmers where conversations and interactions are done not only with netizens but as well as Agriculture and Farming organizations all over the world. To curate the beautiful life stories of the farmers and to regularly update the supporters with the latest developments of the project, Team CPMPC scholars also had created a blog site http://iluvfarmers.blogspot.com for better content and brand establishment.

Why you should help?
Farming is not as fun as you would experience through games like Farmville. It actually takes a lot of effort and life as we know it and some people have not only considered it as livelihood but life in itself.
The project needs to sustain because they have learned to pursue a reliable source of income with very little capital through the technologies and knowledge imparted to them.

They need not only awareness from people but as well as donations in money or in kind such as farming tools and fertilizers, vegetable and fruit seeds and seedlings because after the training they are expected to apply their knowledge unto their respective farm lands.

Keep in mind that they are also the providers of their families.

They also need social awareness because little attention and support is given to these people whose efforts are barely recognized and compensated for the amount of work they are doing.

NO TO FAKES, KNOW THE ORIGINAL!~HP and BSP join hands in the fight against counterfeits. Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and HP, the world's largest technology company, join hands for a phenomenal advocacy against counterfeits in the Philippines. Dubbed as NO TO FAKES! KNOW THE ORIGINAL!, the partnership aims to awaken public awareness on the production and proliferation of counterfeit products such as the Philippine Peso Bills and HP Ink cartridges.

In 2010, the government has confiscated around Php12.57 million worth of counterfeit peso bills. Likewise, law enforcement agencies such as the National Bureau of Investigation have already confiscated around 22,000 fake HP ink cartridges and toners this year amounting to Php21 million.

The joint project (NO TO FAKES, KNOW THE ORIGINAL!) hopes to rally the support of the business community and the consumers to be committed in patronizing originals instead of fakes and counterfeits. This will also help the Philippine Government in its effort to seek the removal of the country from the US Blacklist of nations tolerating counterfeits and intellectual piracy.

The campaign spreads the inspiration by enlisting the help of celebrities and personalities who embody the advocacy's noble ideals. These include celebrity mom Pia Magalona, and son Elmo Magalona, trendsetter Tessa Prieto-Valdes, renowned lifestyle blogger Cecile Van Straten and Social Visionary Bam Aquino.

There will be an upcoming Sangguniang Kabataan Central Visayas Regional Congress in Dumaguete City, Philippines this coming October! The SK Central Visayas Regional Congress will have the theme “For the Youth. By the Youth. Innovations in SK Local Governance and Best Practices,” the Congress aims to increase understanding, trust and cooperation among the Federations of Central Visayas towards the sharing of ideas and best practices.

The 2001 Sangguniang Kabataan Constitution and By-laws specifically states that there shall be an SK Congress at all levels – the National, Regional, Provincial and City/Municipality for the purpose of a Comprehensive Consultation on issues and concerns affecting the SK.

In line with this mandate, the Sangguniang Kabataan Central Visayas Regional Congress is scheduled on October 27 to 30, 2011 at the Negros Oriental Convention Center in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental to be participated by SK Officials from the islands of Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor.

The runs will end at AFP Central Command, Camp Lapu-lapu where a raffle draw and fun-filled program awaits. They are inviting all Kaabag members to participate in this worthwhile endeavor.

What is Wanna BET Youth Initiative?
Dilaab Youth Initiative (a.k.a “Wanna BET? Youth” or WBY) seeks to ignite spaces of hope among the youth by challenging them to live and lead by the basics of prayer, fitness and (good) citizenship. It provides holistic formation to young people in their journey to becoming discerning, God-fearing citizens and leaders.

“BET” stands for Bible, Exercise and Tubig and is a simple effort to provide support in the youth’s journey towards personal integration. It includes text update on the Biblical readings of the daily mass and reminds them to do exercise, and drink 3-5 glasses of lukewarm water.

The Visayan Forum (VF), together with MTV EXIT, invites youth leaders to the first National Youth Summit of the Movement of Anti-Trafficking Advocates (MATA) on October 24th to 28th, 2011 at the Ateneo De Manila University. The Youth Summit will bring together dynamic young Filipinos who will collaborate and deliver their action-oriented commitments and campaign strategies in the fight against trafficking and other forms of exploitation.

The Movement of Anti-Trafficking Advocates (MATA) is an anti-human trafficking advocacy network aimed at motivating and engaging the youth to become the voices for the voiceless victims of human trafficking in the Philippines. MATA (“eye” in Filipino) serves as the “watchful eye”—vigilant youth committed to providing appropriate mechanisms that address human trafficking in the country.

The Korean Film Festival this year will focus on the themes of love. Seven films will be screened on September 20-26 at the SM Mall of Asia and SM North Edsa following a huge turnout of audience at last year’s Horror Film Festival. The Korean Embassy has also expanded the film festival to include the province of Cebu. The Korean Film Festival in Cebu will be from September 28-October 1 in SM Cebu. All the films will be for free.

Under the theme “7 Different Colors of Love”, this year’s festival will feature seven films that headline some of Korea’s famous stars including singer-actor Jang Geun Suk, Cha Tae Hyun and Song Hye Kyo.

Included in the roster of films are Sworn Brothers, Scandal Maker, A Happy Life, My Dear Enemy, Hwang Jin Yi, For Eternal Hearts and Christmas in August.

The seven films that will be shown in the 2011 Korean Film Festival in the Philippines are:

“SECRET REUNION” (Starring: Kang Dong Won, Song Kang Ho). Song Kang-ho, an ex-agent of the National Intelligence Service who is very careful about his actions, is paired with Kang Dong-won, a former spy from the North. Song’s character was released from the NIS six years after the gunfight which happened in the heart of Seoul; however, both men keep their identities hidden from each other.

“SCANDAL MAKER” – (Starring: Cha Tae Hyun, Park Bo Young, Wang Suk Hyun) – Nam Hyun Soo was a very famous idol worshipped like God by teens. Though he is in his mid-thirties now, he is still one of the most sought-after celebrity in the industry and a DJ in a radio show. One of his listeners, Jung-nam, sends him letters narrating her willingness to see her father whom she never met. Her story became a hit and catapults the show’s ratings to be the most popular program. But one day, Jung-nam knocks on Hyun Soo’s door claiming that the father he hasn’t met is none other than him.

“A HAPPY LIFE” – (Starring: Jang Geun Suk, Kim Yun Seok, Kim Sang Ho, Jung Jin Young) – The plot revolves around three former members of college rock band, Volcano, who were reunited by the death of their leader. At the funeral, a young, jobless lead guitarist Gi-Young (Jang Geun Suk) suggested that they reform the band with him as the new front man.

“MY DEAR ENEMY” – (Starring: Jeon Do Yeon, Ha Jeong Woo) – Hee-Soo, who is living a miserable life as a single woman in her thirties, sets out to find her ex-boyfriend, Byoung Woon who owes her $1000. Byeong Woon is also penniless but knows that girls are willing to give him money. Hee-Soo follows him as he visits many girls for money and starts a one-day journey that will change her life again.

“HWANG JIN YI” – (Starring: Song Hye Kyo, Yoo Ji Tae) – A film based on the story of Hwang Jin Yi, the most renowned courtesan of the Chosun Dynasty. She was a beautiful, talented and intelligent young woman who has no other choice but to become a gisaeng because she was an illegitimate child. The movie shows how she used her position and her charm to gain favor from the upper class, as well as his love affair with a male servant named Nom-yi.

“FOR ETERNAL HEARTS” – (Starring: Jung Kyung Ho, Kim Min Sun, Cha Soo Yeon) -An ordinary college boy Su-young meets an extraordinary girl named Pippi on campus. He fell in love with Pippi which did not last long because the latter ended her life at a student demonstration. While trying to get over Pippi, he was hired as a tutor for a girl named Su-young. He was almost at the brink of giving up because of Su-young’s peculiar personality but something is stopping him from doing so. He soon fell in love with Su-young and bizarre things started to happen.

“CHRISTMAS IN AUGUST” – (Starring: Han Suk Kyu, Shim Eun-Ha) -The film is about Jung-won who falls in love with Da-Rim while suffering from an unnamed illness. He hides the fact to Da-Rim and tries to continue living as usual, spending time with his friends and family.
