57th Annual Convention of NDAP a Success!


NDAP is the Nutritionist-Dietitians’ Association of the Philippines which recently had a successful 57th Annual Convention last March 1-3, 2012 at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino, Lahug, Cebu City, Philippines. The theme for this year is: “Transforming Nutritionist-Dietitian for Global Practice.”

March 1 was the opening-kick off ceremonies which included keynote speech from Vice-Governor of Cebu Province Agnes Magpale and speakers from Asian Hospital and Medical Center, Unilever and the like. The 1st Technical Session (in the morning) was about the Internationalizing the Nutritionist-Dietitian. The Topics for the 1st Technical Session are: New and Emerging Roles by Demetria C. Bongga, RND, PhD, Professor/Lecturer, College of Home Economics, University of the Philippines-Diliman. A joint session of Expectations from Various Sectors followed in which the following sectors shared their piece: Susana K. Madarieta, MD, Director, Center for Health Development for Central Visayas; Engr. Oscar Tuazon, Administrative Officer of Cebu Doctors’ Hospital; Atty.Haide C. Acuña, ABS-CBN Newscaster; Roque Anthony Paradela, MD, Medical Division Chief, Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center; Roberto C, Tachancho, MD, Associate Professor, Ateneo School of Medicine & Public Health.

In the afternoon was the 2nd Technical Session on Leadership, Technology & Change Management:
A Structured approach to getting your patients to be Physically Active by Benedict Tan, MD, Chairman of Exercise is Medicine from Singapore; and Managing Change in Transition by Marcelo Lopez, RN, EdD, DPA, President of Cebu Normal University.

On day 2, the 3rd Technical Session is about the Skills for Global Practices which are: Advocacy and Health Promotions by Engr. Chito Macapagal, VP Corporate Affairs, Unilever; Nutrition and Physical Activity in Aging by Professor Romel V. Cabazor, Assistant Dean, Department of Physical Therapy and Occupational Health, Velez College, Cebu City.

The 4th Technical Session: Enhancing Quality of Life; Genotype Patterns Predict Weight Loss by Eva Maria Cutiongco-Dela Paz, MD, Consultant, Department of Pediatrics, The Medical City; Prevention and Management of Eye Health by Potenciano SD. Larrazabal III, MD, Chairman, Larrazabal Eye Group, Cebu Doctors University Hospital; Anxiety, Depression and Diet by Pureza Oñate, MD, Medical Director, Perpetual Soccour Hospital, Cebu City.

The 5th Technical Session was about Cultural Diets and Medical Nutrition Therapy; the topics are: Food Quality Requirements for the future by Milflora M. Gatchalian, MD, CEO, Quality Partners Company Ltd.; Asian Cuisines and Impact to Health by Nemencia Nicodemus, MD, Associate Professor, Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, UP College of Medicine; and lastly a cooking demo by Rose Bud Benitez, Che, Quick Fire Cooking Show.

On day 3, was a Day tour in various places in Bohol and that concluded the whole celebration of the 3-day convention.
