The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) turned over 10 rehabilitated classrooms in the municipalities of Alcoy and Ginatilan last Aug. 17 to 18.

These classrooms are beneficiaries of RAFI’s School Rehabilitation Program that is supported by the Department of Education (DepEd) as well as recipient local government units, parents, teachers, students, and community.

In Alcoy, a three-classroom Bagong Lipunan building in Nug-as Elementary School was repaired. In Ginatilan, another three-classroom Bagong Lipunan building in CaƱorong Elementary School and a four-classroom Gabaldon building in Salamanca Elementary School were rehabilitated.

RAFI contributed Php353,979.95 worth of construction materials to Alcoy and Php1,677,145.70 worth of construction materials to Ginatilan to have these classrooms repaired.

The local government units of Alcoy and Ginatilan provided labor counterpart worth Php88,037.50 and Php649,600, respectively.

The rehabilitation of the 10 classrooms benefited around 300 schoolchildren.

The School Rehabilitation Project, which aimed at providing opportunities for rural communities to address the need for major repairs of dilapidated academic classrooms in public elementary schools in the Cebu Province, adopts a collaborative strategy between RAFI and the DepEd, LGUs, Parents-Teachers-Community Associations, RAFI, and other stakeholders.

The School Rehabilitation Program also targets to do major repair and rehabilitation of culturally significant school buildings, such as Gabaldon Buildings, which were built during the early 1900’s as our country was starting its formal educational system.
