Around 1,500 government officials and development partners are expected to attend in the 2nd expanded Green and Wholesome Environment that Nurtures (eGWEN) Our Cebu Program Partners’ Conference organized by the Cebu Provincial Government and the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) on Aug. 4 at the Cebu International Convention Center.
The Partners’ Conference will be graced by Cebu Provincial Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and RAFI President Roberto Aboitiz.
The participants include mayors, vice-mayors, information officers, Sangguniang Kabataan leaders, and eGWEN coordinators from the cities and municipalities of Cebu as well as representatives from the regional line agencies, academe, business, media, and civil society. Governors from the provinces in the Visayas region will also participate in the event.
The 2nd Partners’ Conference, with the theme “Into the Mainstream: Good Governance at the Local Level,” aims to provide a venue where individuals and groups concerned in building a livable Cebu can discuss, learn, and agree or disagree on ways to achieve good governance and mainstream these practices at the local levels.
` Picking up from last year’s 1st partners conference that focused on emerging LGU (local government unit) models for the eGWEN Our Cebu Program, the 2nd Partners Conference will focus on good governance practices and experiences that have been drawn from the substantive lessons gained in implementing the eGWEN Our Cebu Program and have been mainstreamed at the local levels.
It will also be an opportunity for development-oriented groups and government leaders to identify initiatives and commitments that can be immediately implemented to create towns and cities that are more inclusive and sustainable based on standards and determinants of a livable Cebu.
The plenary keynote speaker for the 2nd Partners’ Conference is the 2009 eGWEN Our Cebu Grand Champion Awardee, the Municipality of San Francisco, Camotes Island, Cebu.
The keynote will open the sessions for Roundtable, Networking, Training, Business Caucus and Youth Assembly. Results of these sessions will be documented, presented and forwarded to the LGUs, national and regional line agencies, civil society and the private sector for immediate action.
An awarding of the top ten exemplary LGUs and barangays as well as other categories under the eGWEN Our Cebu program will be done after the closing ceremony of the Partners’ Conference.
